Encouraging visitors and improving access.

The Arts Precinct Transformation will reimagine the public space connecting the Arts Centre Melbourne and the National Gallery of Victoria through to the corridor of public buildings on Southbank Boulevard. The project will be framed by two new buildings: one for creative industries, and the other, the new NGV Contemporary gallery. The realised masterplan will deck over part of the Sturt Street in conjunction with the revised loading bays to the Arts Centre.
Charcoalblue, following extensive site noise analysis and modelling, have developed a sitewide noise masterplan for the new activities planned for the area. New performance areas, ranging from formal to impromptu, have been conceived within the landscape concept design so that unoccupied performance spaces don’t create voids within the active park.
Charcoalblue have advised on the technical infrastructure for the performance areas as well as the event production requirements, including access paths for deliveries, on-site storage and weatherproofed areas, and audience management.
