Eric is responsible for the day to day operations and business development of the Melbourne studio in liaison with the UK senior management team and provides project management and consultancy in all aspects of theatre design.

Eric has thirty years of experience as an architect specialising in the design and construction of theatres and buildings for the arts. Eric’s early involvement in amateur drama, backstage works and stage management developed into a professional career with an expertise and understanding of how performance buildings operate on all levels and for all users.
Eric has been involved in the early planning, coordination and detailed construction of many of the UK’s award winning theatres, including the refurbishments of Sheffield Lyceum (with Andy and Jon), Basingstoke’s Haymarket Theatre, Sadlers Wells, The Royal Court, Regent’s Park Theatre and a drama studio for BBC Radio.
With Charcoalblue he has been involved in the Courtyard Theatre for the RSC and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater development and since opening the Charcoalblue Melbourne Studio he has led our team on the proposals for the refurbishment of Sydney Theatre Company’s Wharf theatres, won the design study for the new Waterfront Theatre at the Esplanade in Singapore and is leading the design team for the proposed Waikato Regional Theatre in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Painting sets and lighting School Drama productions - Memory – How emotionally involved you can become in the process when designing a building for creative people, how hard it is to hand it over after living and breathing the creation, but then the joy of opening night!
