W!ld Rice

Singapore

W!ld Rice embarked upon a mission to create a new Performing Arts Centre in Singapore which will provide an intimate thrust stage of 350 seats, along with support facilities. In addition to the company’s own theatre the facility will include the headquarters for the company, a studio that is used for both rehearsals and performances, along with a rehearsal studio, offices and meeting rooms.

As Singapore’s largest independent theatre producer, the project is an important milestone for the company, and the new building will be a significant contribution to Singapore’s theatrical landscape.

The kaleidoscope of cultures in Singapore has been an important influence on the development of the project and this has driven the desire to create a theatre that draws on both the best international references and important local cultural touchstones.

The base geometry of the space has emerged from historical local references and the desire for an actor focused stage, the technical vision for the theatre was executed with modern theatre technologies as well as the ability to adapt the space to the needs of artists
