W!ld Rice

W!ld Rice is Singapore’s largest independent theatre producer. This project is an important milestone for the company, with the new building a significant contribution to Singapore’s theatrical landscape. The kaleidoscope of cultures in Singapore was an important influence on developing the project, driving W!ld Rice’s desire to create a theatre that draws on both the best international references and local cultural touchstones.
The new performing arts centre provides an intimate thrust stage of 350 seats and support facilities. In addition to the company’s own theatre, the facility includes the headquarters for the company, a studio for both rehearsals and performances, along with a rehearsal studio, offices and meeting rooms.
The base geometry of the space emerged from local historical references and the desire for an actor-focussed stage. The centre uses modern theatre technologies with the ability to adapt the space to the needs of artists.
