Geelong Arts Centre

A performing arts centre for the future.

The Geelong Arts Centre Phase 3 redevelopment realised an exceptional contemporary arts campus that transformed the arts and cultural landscape for Geelong, the region and Victoria. The vision was bold, placing artists, the community and creatives at its core, and redefining the role of arts centres as agents of change. The centre established a campus model that embraced multilingual and multicultural engagement, creating an accessible and welcoming environment for everyone. The redevelopment complemented Phase 2, Making Spaces, which nurtured and supported the development of new work.

Funded by the Victorian State Government, Phase 3 delivered new performance spaces, each with its own unique functional brief and character, complementing the existing Playhouse proscenium theatre, Making Spaces and rehearsal facilities. These included a 550-seat flexible theatre for drama, dance and music, and a 300-seat warehouse-style flexible space suitable for a variety of configurations and events. The project also incorporated external event spaces, connected public foyers with catering and performance capabilities, and comprehensive back-of-house and administration facilities.

We worked with ARM Architecture to provide full theatre planning and auditorium design services, alongside a complete suite of technical design services for all performance spaces.
