Beky assists and consults in all aspects of stagelighting design

At Charcoalblue, I design stagelighting and audiovisual systems, tailoring each solution to the needs of the project and the people who will use the space. Drawing on my background in dance, theatre, and opera, I explore how technology can support performance, enhance the audience experience, and work seamlessly for venue teams. I enjoy the collaborative process—working closely with colleagues, designers, and clients to develop thoughtful, practical systems that help create exceptional performance environments.

What Excites You Most About Your Work

I love collaborating with other designers and developing our ideas together at every stage of a project. It’s especially rewarding to follow the work from early concepts through to opening night, working with everyone involved. It’s exciting to step into a theatre and see those first sketches developed and realized.

What We Won’t Learn from Your CV

I used to play saxophone in bands in Cardiff, and I’m looking forward to making time to pick it up again.

Coffee, Travel, or Creative Ritual

I swim a few miles each week in pools, lidos and reservoirs. It keeps me physically and mentally fit, and it’s a great way to round off the working week and ease into the weekend.

I strive for professional excellence in my work – I’ve always had a great eye for detail and ensure my work is to a high standard. Every project requires care, no matter the size – from the smallest school studio to the biggest lyric theatres. I enjoy learning, exploring and developing my skillset to support and enhance my work to find the best possible solutions and contribute to the design of brilliant spaces.
