I am Director of Acoustics at Charcoalblue, with nearly a decade at the practice and over twenty years of experience in the design of performing arts and cultural buildings. My work focuses on delivering high-performance acoustic environments that support artistic ambition and long-term operational success.I lead the acoustic design of complex projects, collaborating closely with architects, designers, and engineers to integrate acoustic strategy from concept through to completion. I am particularly engaged by technically and creatively demanding briefs, where a rigorous approach is essential to achieving the highest standards.My approach is grounded in clarity, precision, and pragmatism—balancing acoustic excellence with programme, budget, and client priorities. I place strong emphasis on ensuring that design solutions are robust and aligned with how buildings are used and evolve over time, delivering spaces that perform for clients, artists, and audiences alike.

What Excites You Most About Your Work

What I value most is working with clients to fulfil their vision, while working closely with architects and design teams to translate that ambition into built form. I particularly enjoy projects defined by strong ideas and demanding briefs, where a rigorous and considered approach enables the team to push boundaries and deliver at the highest level.Equally important is the environment in which this work takes place. Collaborating with highly skilled, creative, and experienced colleagues fosters a culture of quality, critical thinking, and continuous development—an essential foundation for delivering successful projects.

A Book, Podcast, Building, or Creative Work That Inspires You

I have a long-standing interest in history podcasts, drawn to the perspective they offer on how little we have fundamentally changed as a species. Across different periods and cultures, the same patterns of ambition, conflict, creativity, and resilience continue to emerge. I find it both humbling and reassuring—reminding me that many of the challenges we face today are not new, but part of a much longer continuum. Engaging with these stories offers a way to step back, to reflect, and to learn. It reinforces the value of understanding the past, not as something distant, but as a guide to making more informed decisions in the present.
