As a Senior Theatre Design Consultant at Charcoalblue, I shape performance spaces that bring artistic ambition together with practical understanding. I have a natural feel for geometry and form, which helps me read the semiotics of space – how shapes, volumes, and sightlines communicate and influence performance. Architecture and theatre are my safe space. They’re where my instincts and imagination feel most at home.I begin every project with a clear, open mindset. I interpret the brief with care, listen closely to stakeholders, and collaborate within a tight, focused team to create designs that genuinely serve their purpose. What Excites You Most About Your Work

What excites me most is the moment a space truly comes alive and stops feeling like mine, like a designer’s project. Watching something that began as a blank idea grow into a design, and then be claimed by the artists, the people who use it every day, and the communities it enriches, is the most rewarding part of my work.

What Brought You to Charcoalblue

What brought me to Charcoalblue was the chance to draw on all of my experience, whether I was standing in the light or working behind it. I’ve always balanced between theatre and architecture, and this is one of the few places where that mix isn’t unusual, it’s essential. It allows me to use my full training and intuition to create spaces that truly serve their communities.

What Does Great Design or Experience Mean to You

Great design, to me, is when a place invites people in effortlessly and responds to them without needing to be noticed. It’s when the environment supports expression, collaboration, and comfort in a way that feels natural. A great experience is when people feel connected and completely at ease in the space.

A Project That Shaped How You Work

Redesigning the Roundhouse (Camden, London) seating taught me how essential it is to let the building and its users guide the solution. Balancing geometry, accessibility, sightlines, and history showed me that good design comes from observing real needs, adapting with care, and respecting the character a space already holds.

What You Hope People Feel in a Space You’ve Worked On

I want people to feel inspired, not overwhelmed. A space should spark a sense of wonder and respect, yet still give people the freedom to flourish. My aim is to create environments that feel intuitive and purposeful, where every detail supports their experience without getting in the way, allowing their own ideas and energy to come forward.

I love the challenges that come with historic buildings. I enjoy untangling what’s unclear, understanding the layers of the place, and shaping solutions that feel intuitive and purposeful. Turning complexity into clarity in a way that lets the building and its users grow is a challenge that pushes my work forward.

What We Won’t Learn from Your CV

You won’t learn from my CV that I was very good at tennis and my coaches encouraged me to consider playing professionally. I made the choice to let that path go so I could follow my passion for history, architecture and performing arts, all of which continue to shape how I work today.

Ancient Thira moved me when I volunteered as a student architect on the excavation. The way it sits quietly, holding its history without demanding attention, shaped how I think about place, time, and the responsibility of working with what lasts.
