The Story Museum
Oxford, UK
Bringing three derelict buildings back to an imaginative new life.
The Story Museum celebrates stories and storytelling and explores the power of story to teach and delight the community. It does this by creating and sharing experiences through various media, including theatre, puppetry, song, reading, drawing and printmaking.
Following special events and outreach learning opportunities in schools, three derelict buildings were donated to the museum to carry out its work, providing a home in central Oxford. The first phase of the project made vital infrastructure improvements and included a bookshop and café. The second phase transformed the remaining buildings to improve access and amenities and offer gallery, activity and theatre spaces.
The museum has multiple themed spaces for performances and storytelling, including a 100-seat theatre, an immersive media space, and intimate story circle spaces. The clarity of the spoken word has been critical to the mission of the Story Museum. We provided acoustics and noise control services for the performance spaces, exhibit halls and public areas.
