Bloomingdale School of Music David Greer Recital Hall
New York, NY
A televised makeover for a deserving school's recital hall.
In the fall of 2019, the Bloomingdale School of Music was nominated and selected to receive a TV make-over by the NBC reality show George to the Rescue. The school was selected for the show because of its strong commitment to serve more than 800 students on the belief that everyone, of any age, should have access to quality music education, regardless of ability to pay.

Led by general contractor SilverLining, Inc., the project transformed the Recital Hall and backyard space. The company enlisted Rogers Partners Architects who reached out to Charcoalblue to provide acoustical and theatre design services, donating time and resources to provide a world-class hall for the community-focused non-profit.
From start to finish, the rapid design and refurbishment came together in under two months. Our team consulted on design concepts and oversaw construction to substantially improve the space with professional grade equipment and room finishes made possible thanks to generous material donations from industry partners. Draperies were installed for adjustable acoustics to suit various types of music and programming, along with an architectural ceiling design integrating absorptive panels and angled reflectors to promote an even room response offering flexibility for musicians to rehearse and perform throughout the room in different arrangements.
