Dicky Burgess

Dicky has worked professionally for over 27 years in a technical capacity in the arts in the UK and has worked as a theatre consultant for the past five years.

Starting as a multi-skilled technician at St David’s Hall, Cardiff in 1996 he worked with a wide range of international orchestras and regularly operated lighting for televised events such as BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. In 2004, he became Chief Electrician at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff when it opened, overseeing a full time staff of nine. Highlights at WMC included the Royal Variety Performance, The Ring Cycle by Mariinsky Opera of St Petersburg, WOMEX music festival, and production weeks for several number one touring musicals including Cameron Mackintosh’s Les Misérables.

In 2014, Dicky moved to the Doctor Who Experience for BBC Studios as the Technical Operations Manager where he spent two years looking after original TARDIS consoles and Daleks.

Following his time travels with the Doctor, he spent four years as an independent technical consultant for Arts Council of Wales on a variety of projects throughout Wales. During 2020 he worked for Theatre Projects Consultants as their AV Package Manager for Warwick Arts Centre Phase 2.

Dicky joined Charcoalblue in 2021 as a permanent member of the theatre consultancy team, specialising in audiovisual design, and stagelighting systems.

As a fully qualified electrician, Dicky tests temporary electrical installations to BS7909 for a variety of companies in South Wales. He also advises on electrical testing requirements to demonstrate compliance with BS7671 and the Code of Practice for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
