Troy consults on consults in all aspects of audiovisual design and supports all our designers across the practice in delivering our BIM strategy. He works on the research and development of our REVIT workflows and maintains our resources.

I am an Audiovisual designer here at Charcoal blue, and I am also a member of the BIM team. My background in AV has allowed me to create many tools with both Revit and Dynamo automation to allow us to spend more time designing and less time documenting. The most important thing for me in spending time with my family. We try and go camping a few times a year. My favorite place to camp is up in the mountains in a quiet place with a stream.

What Excites You Most About Your Work

Like most of us I want to create a space where experiences happen that are memorable, but more importantly I want to create this toolbox the users have to facilitate these experiences. I try and design systems that I personally will want to use, the kind of system an end user can dream up something wild and when it comes time to implement it the tools to make it work are already in place.

Coffee, Travel, or Creative Ritual

When I need to recharge and get away from the stress the thing to do is go find a place away from all the noise. Take the camper or go out in a canvas tent. Find a quiet place our in the woods and just close my eyes, feel the wind blow and just listen. When I hear the brushing of the leave, the water flowing, the cracking of a campfire it just brings peace. Coming back from that helps me think clearly and gets me excited for what we can do next.

Cultural Value You Most Identify With

That would be collaboration. It doesn’t matter if it is creating an internal tool, fixing an error in an automation script, or working with a design team to create a space other will be able to experience one day. There isn’t a day that goes by I don’t collaborate with someone; this is where ideas are decided and problems are worked out. Even though I work remotely I am constantly working with someone and that is what keeps my job interesting honestly.
