Mark Thomas
Senior Project Manager
Mark provides construction management services from design to completion for event, presentation, and auditorium spaces on large tech campuses.
As a Senior Project Manager at Charcoalblue, I specialize in delivering exceptional performance and corporate spaces for clients worldwide. My role centers on translating complex design visions into reality, drawing on a career built at the intersection of high-stakes theatrical production and sophisticated systems consultancy.I approach my work with a blend of designer’s intuition and an operator’s precision. Whether managing multi-million dollar budgets for production shows or overseeing the commissioning of state-of-the-art tech hubs, I focus on creating scalable, efficient workflows. I believe that the most successful projects are those where technical innovation is balanced with rigorous project management and clear, cross-departmental communication. What matters most to me is empowerment through technology. I am driven to implement intuitive, world-class systems that allow users to focus on their creative or professional goals without the friction of technical barriers. For me, success is a space that performs as brilliantly as the people using it.
What Excites You Most About Your Work
What excites me most is the opportunity to collaborate with world-class experts and artists across multiple disciplines to solve complex, high-stakes challenges. Whether I am drawing on my background in grand opera, rock and roll production design, or coordinating intricate A/V and lighting elements for major global tech clients, I find the greatest energy in the “puzzle” of design and coordination.
What We Won’t Learn from Your CV
What my CV won’t tell you is that my foundation in production wasn’t just built in high-end design suites or at the San Francisco Opera. As a teenager and young adult, I spent several years at Six Flags Over Texas, where I learned the true meaning of “the show must go on.”During those summers, I pulled double duty in the musical review shows—alternating between being the lighting supervisor and playing womanizing card shark, Dallas Maverick. This early experience in the “Six Flags trenches” gave me a unique, 360-degree perspective on performance. It taught me that whether you are hitting a lighting cue or a choreography mark, success comes down to discipline, stamina, and the ability to connect with an audience. It’s that same grit and versatility that I bring to managing global projects today.
Cultural Value You Most Identify With
I most identify with the value of Communication because I believe it is the connective tissue of a successful project. In my role as a Project Manager, I’ve seen that technical brilliance only succeeds when it is matched by clarity. I strive to communicate in a way that is both direct and efficient, stripping away jargon to ensure our clients and partners never feel overwhelmed, yet always feel informed. For me, communication isn’t just about the exchange of information; it’s about building the trust and understanding necessary to deliver exceptional spaces on a global scale.
Cultural Value That Guides Engagement with Others
I am most guided by the values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. I fundamentally believe that you cannot design a space intended for everyone without a team that represents a broad swath of human experience. My work on global projects has shown me that the most creative solutions emerge when we lean into the breadth of perspectives a diverse team provides.Example: When delivering exceptional spaces for clients worldwide, I make it a priority to center the end-users in the design process. Rather than making assumptions from a distance, I engage directly with the local stakeholders and artists who will inhabit the space. By listening to what is truly important to them and understanding their unique cultural or technical needs, I ensure the final project isn’t just a technical achievement, but a space that has a meaningful, inclusive impact for the people it serves.
Cultural Value That Inspires You to Go the Extra Mile
The value that inspires me to go the extra mile is Professional Excellence. I take immense pride in my work, and I want every client and collaborator to feel they are in the hands of someone who is not only reliable and dedicated but consistently thinking three steps ahead. In my day-to-day work, this shows up in my obsession with the details. For me, excellence isn’t just about the final handover; it’s about providing the peace of mind that comes from exceeding expectations at every milestone.
