Karl Allen
Consultant Team Leader
Karl provides team leadership, design consultancy and project management services for our projects in North America.
I am a Consultant, Team Leader, and Project Manager for Charcoalblue. I am proud to do whatever it takes to continue making amazing spaces for performance and presentation by humans for humans. I am also passionate about museums of all kinds- science, art, natural history, and technology. Any place where we collectively go to broaden our experience and understanding of the world is a place of which I would like to be a part.
What You Hope People Feel in a Space You’ve Worked On
I want to create spaces that are equally enjoyable to be in for both patrons who visit once to the staff who will inevitably spend an inordinate amount of their lives there. That means understanding the flow of a space- how we move through it and how it responds to our needs. It also means creating a space that allows for people with a variety of experiences and backgrounds to feel comfortable and confidant engaging with it.
What Are You Learning About Right Now
Right now I’m assembling a few Raspberry Pi projects, trying to learn more about analog synthesizers, and also continuing a running regimen.
Cultural Value You Most Identify With
Collaboration is at the core of all of Charcoalblue’s values. If we can’t work together towards a common goal then how can we achieve anything? For me, every project is a collaboration whether it’s amongst an internal group of consultants and specialists on our team or between Charcoalblue, the architect, engineer, or client. We lift each other up and hold one another accountable to all of our values as an organization and as people with a common cause.
