Kaitlyn Kistler

Kaitlyn supports all our designers across the practice in delivering our BIM strategy. She works on the implementation of Revit procedures with a focus on content development.

I am a BIM Coordinator at Charcoalblue. My main role is to make sure that all of our projects have smoothly running digital models. This includes managing the model’s health, creating 3D elements and coordinating among the wider project team. I am also always keen to answer any questions and solve problems as they arise. Nothing is more satisfying than finding the solution to a problem – I guess that is my mathematics background showing itself! My goal is to make our team members’ workflow as seamless as possible.

What Excites You Most About Your Work

I obtained my Master of Architecture degree in 2017 and set about the process of becoming an architect. I had an uncanny knack for 3D modeling and found myself performing a lot of the duties of a BIM coordinator by default. I wanted to fix errors, develop workflows, and help others when they had snags. I transitioned to full time BIM work in 2022 and now every day is a new puzzle. For a nerd like me, there is nothing more fulfilling!

What Clients/Colleagues Value About You

I understand that the 3D modeling software is temperamental. And I think that my colleagues really appreciate that my answer to any of their problems is “I will figure it out.” I want to solve those instant questions that arise but also try to figure out long term solutions to common problems. Everyone knows they can vent to me about frustrating technology and I will try my best to find a way to ease that frustration.

What Are You Learning About Right Now

I used to knit quite frequently, but took an extended break due to injury. I am recently re-learning all of the stitches and techniques. It is so not like riding a bike for me. And naturally I can’t just start with knitting an easy square. I need to jump right into making a stuffed cat that looks like my sister’s kitty Porter. And eventually two more!

Cultural Value You Most Identify With

I am so proud to work for a company that values Equity, Diversity & Inclusion so much. In designing spaces and buildings, so often are accessibility and inclusion pushed to the back. Guidelines are “the maximum,” and no money or space is given to make spaces more comfortable for all. I want everyone to feel like they belong. I’m a little different, we all are! I appreciate that I can be myself here at Charcoalblue and that our work reflects that sentiment.
