Amanda consults on all aspects of stage lighting, architectural lighting, and theatrical systems design.

I am a stage lighting consultant and an architectural lighting consultant for Charcoalblue. I approach my work with a human-centered perspective. I want to ensure the building is the best it can be for the people working there day in and day out, not just the special events. Accessibility of systems matters deeply for me, from user accessibility to change things as they need, and the accessibility of spaces. With still being a freelance lighting designer for productions (ask me about circus!), I love being able to engage with theaters as a user as well.

What Excites You Most About Your Work

I really enjoy uniting people with resources. For example, it is so exciting to help a theater undergoing a renovation obtain the resources they need, because I know the end users are going to have such a fun new toolbox to work with. I also really enjoy understanding the stories each theater has, or the area, and working with clients to honor the history while building something new.

What We Won’t Learn from Your CV

I love reading, writing, painting (watercolor mostly), sketching, photography (film and digital), and knitting. I have a dog named Willow who is 6 years old.

Cultural Value You Most Identify With

Collaboration – most of us have been in live events for quite some time before coming to consulting. Collaboration comes naturally after being on teams in which art must be made together. It benefits everyone to work together and benefits the project. Communication fits deeply into this value because without communication, there is no collaboration. Equity, Diversity & Inclusion is also deeply important to me as I am the IDEAS Representative for the Architecture Commission for USITT.
