Royal Carribbean's Fleet, Icon of the Seas
Miami, FL, USA
Raising the bar for luxury onboard entertainment.
Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is the largest cruise ship ever built. With guest capacity of 7,600 and staff capacity of 2,350, the total capacity is just short of 10,000. The ship is the first of its class and breaks new ground from the previous series of ships from the RCCL. Guests will be entertained in a large array of venues, from the opulent Royal Theater to the funky and vibrant Music Hall, from the stunning AquaDome Theater to the slick Absolute Zero Ice Arena there is plenty to see and experience.
The client’s brief for Charcoalblue was to drive innovation and be agents of change. Our full scope covered theatre design, stage lighting and audiovisual systems, stage engineering, and room acoustics for the major performance venues on board, as well as planning for live entertainment accommodations in the numerous secondary venues and neighborhoods. We worked with RCCL leadership and staff alongside Wilson Butler Architects, other design team members and Meyer Turku’s shipyard representatives from early concept through to the final design to deliver new and exciting venues that have never before been seen on a cruise ship.
Using our knowledge and experience we developed the ambitious client brief for every entertainment venue into realized designs. As a team, we pushed design boundaries to make these shipboard spaces feel as authentic and capable as their most ambitious land based equivalents.
