Pace University Psychology Department and McShane Center

As part of Pace University’s growing New York City campus, their Psychology Department and McShane Center for Psychological Services, a well-established psychology-training program accredited by the American Psychological Association, have expanded into a new space in lower Manhattan.

The project brings the Psychology Department and McShane Center together into a single facility. The office fitout provides the Psychology Department with new graduate level offices, classrooms, workspaces, and therapy testing/observation rooms. The McShane Center will expand their current capabilities with multiple private office spaces, observation rooms, and session rooms.

Charcoalblue provided acoustic design services for the project, detailing design parameters and construction requirements to ensure that the spaces perform exceptionally to meet the strict acoustic privacy requirements outlined in the brief. This required high performing acoustic rated windows and doors, and key detailing of partition and ceiling constructions. Charcoalblue also advised on the audio-visual systems design, integrating an audio-visual infrastructure to support acoustic privacy using a sound masking system, dedicated audio monitoring connections and installed microphones at one-way glass observation areas, and providing remote audio and video recording capabilities for all therapy testing, session, and observation rooms.
