New London Architecture Awards 2022

06/12/22

We are delighted to see two Charcoalblue projects win big at the 2022 NLA Awards.

UCL PEARL, London’s state-of-the-art research facility, took home the Environmental Sustainability prize. UCL PEARL (Person Environment Activity Research Laboratory) is dedicated to exploring the ways in which people interact with the environment around them. With a footprint of over 4000m2 and a height of 10m, it supports life-sized recreation of real-world environments from train stations to high streets providing the perfect space for research into accessibility and mobility in its broadest sense.

Working alongside architects Penoyre & Prasad, Charcoalblue designed a vast technical infrastructure to support all the potential requirements of such a highly innovative and flexible facility.

Winning the Conservation prize is BAFTA, 195 Picadilly, the iconic home of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts for the last forty years. As a key part of the design team, led by Benedetti Architects, Charcoalblue oversaw a complete reimagining of the audiovisual and screening systems. This includes the screening room, a second smaller cinema, a fully projection-mapped experience space, LED installations and a backbone infrastructure for broadcast and content distribution. Our Charcoalblue Experience team worked closely with the client and many industry partners to create a building that is identifiable as the home of the moving image.

Congratulations to all of the shortlisted nominees and winners at this year's New London Architecture Awards. See the full list of winners here.
