Cabaret wins Tony for Best Scenic Design in a Musical!
18/06/24
We're thrilled to hear that Tom Scutt, designer for Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in ATG's August Wilson Theater, has won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Scenic Design in a Musical. We were especially thrilled and grateful to hear Tom mention Charcoalblue in his acceptance speech!
Our work with Tom, ATG, Underbelly, and Gary Beestone stretches back to London, 2020, and the Playhouse Theatre. Working first with architects Carmody Groake to transform the Grade-II listed venue into an intimate in-the-round space, then with Kostow Greenwood Architects to develop the August Wilson Theatre into a new Weimar-era cabaret room for this spectacular production, directed by Rebecca Frecknall.
With Tom's vision of creating a space that invites new audiences to the theatre and in collaboration with the client team, production and design teams, we were able to create two truly unique interventions, converting two very different proscenium arch theatres into two diverse and immersive in-the-round spaces.
Congratulations to Tom and everyone involved in the design of Broadway's Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, on a much deserved win!
