UNICORN CHILDREN'S CENTRE
LONDON

PROJECT BUDGET: £12.5 million
COMPLETED: November 2005
PROJECT ARCHITECT: Keith Williams Architects

…in depth user collaboration and flexible technical design

Project summary

The Unicorn Children's Centre is the first purpose-built theatre for children in London, and features a 350-seat flexible main theatre that can be configured in thrust, end-stage and in-the-round arrangements.

In association with the Unicorn Theatre technical department, Charcoalblue's staff designed an innovative system of overhead bridges with "flip-up" floors which enables the theatre to achieve full height flying without the expense of a fly tower.

Charcoalblue's directors were the lead technical consultants from the beginning of the project to the completion of the construction works on site, which were completed by Charcoalblue in collaboration with Theatre Projects Consultants.
