Project summary
At the heart of the current Perth Theatre is a 460 seat Edwardian Playhouse, surrounded by a series of later additions intended to accommodate the broad range of activities carried out by one of Scotland's most prominent and long-serving producing venues.
The proposed redevelopment scheme involves the restoration of the interior of the B listed auditorium, the partial demolition, partial reworking of the surrounding accommodation areas, the extension of the site into the neighbouring car-park and the formation of new entrances at each end of the building, creating a tangible link with the neighbouring Perth Concert Hall. |
The result will be an arts complex that in addition to the main auditorium will house a new studio space, a youth theatre, a community room, a rehearsal room, a construction workshop and a series of front of house performance areas. Charcoalblue is assisting the architect with the restoration of the main theatre, the design and planning of the building as a whole and the performance spaces in particular, and is also designing custom stage machinery, stagelighting and audiovisual systems to service all of the performance areas in the building. |
