EMPIRE THEATRE
BARBADOS

PROJECT BUDGET: Confidential
ANTICIPATED COMPLETION: tbc
PROJECT ARCHITECT: Tony Brooks Architects

…bringing a derelict theatre back from the brink

Project summary

The Empire Theatre in Barbados was built in 1907 as the premier venue for theatre in the island. It was also used as a cinema and continued in this use into the 1970’s. The building has remained disused since that period with very little being done to maintain its fabric. In recent times, the roof has fallen into disrepair and sections of it have now collapsed into the bowels of the building. Internally, the building is in a very bad state of repair, with virtually none of the internal decorations having survived.

The complete restoration of the theatre is now being planned by Tony Brooks Architects. Charcoalblue is providing a full auditorium design advice, front and back of house planning advice, stage engineering equipment design, stage lighting system design and coordination with the other members of the design team.
