Project summary

The Abbey theatre's new home forms part of the development of Dublin Docklands at St Georges Dock, which includes the National Convention Centre, the Grand Canal Theatre, the CHQ building, the Point Village and the U2 Tower.

The theatre will have three auditoriums, several rehearsal spaces, public and social spaces including shops, bars, restaurants, cafes, facilities for performers and staff, gallery and exhibition facilities and a cinema/lecture facility.

Charcoalblue has been appointed as monitor to the project, and will be reviewing the brief for the design team competition, contributing to the international design competition and the selection of the design team. We will then be continuing to monitor the design of the auditorium, the backstage planning, the development of the technical systems, and the construction and commissioning of the building.
