CENTRE FOR CONTEMPORARY ARTS
NOTTINGHAM

PROJECT BUDGET: £13.9 million
COMPLETION: Spring 2009
PROJECT ARCHITECT: Caruso St John

...a key cultural resource for Nottingham

Project summary

Nottingham's Centre for the Contemporary Arts will be one of the largest venues for temporary exhibitions of contemporary art in the UK, with an overall size of 3,000 square metres  designed by architects Caruso St John. Building work is currently underway on a very challenging site in the City's old lace market district.

As well as a number of traditional gallery spaces, there will be a large performance space designed to accommodate performance art, dance, theatre and music. The space may also be used for exhibitions and corporate functions.

Charcoalblue has worked with Caruso StJohn to try to bring the feeling of a "found space" to the concrete basement room, as well as ensuring that the technical infrastructure can provide for both art and performance.
