Main Responsibilities To provide project management and consultancy on all aspects of theatre design, specialising in the design of stage engineering and other technical systems.
Qualifications BSc ARCS (Chemistry) City & Guilds qualifications in Electrical Installation Design & Practice; Systems Engineering. Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (MIEE) Member of the Association of British Theatre Technicians Contribution to British Standards A contributing member of BSI Committee MHE/3/13 tasked with producing: BS7905-1:2001 Lifting equipment for performance, broadcast and similar applications. BS7906-1:2005 Use of lifting equipment for performance broadcast and similar applications. Member of CEN WS25 - new European standard for stage engineering Experience Four years as a theatre consultant, nineteen years as a theatre practitioner at the National Theatre, including operational, management, design & project experience. Operating, maintaining, specifying and installing stage engineering and power flying systems. Designing and production managing the rigging and automation aspects of shows at the National. Notable productions include: - Pravda directed by David Hare - The Shaugraun directed by Howard Davies - Wind in the Willows directed by Nicholas Hytner - Under Milk Wood directed by Roger Michell - Guys and Dolls (revival) directed by Richard Eyre - Oklahoma, South Pacific and Anything Goes directed by Trevor Nunn - His Dark Materials directed by Nicholas Hytner. One year with AFM Lighting Ltd as Technical Manager working on film and TV lighting projects including studio installations. Theatre Production/Technical Management Management of production, operational and maintenance teams, and liaison with designers and directors to create required effects for productions. Selection and management of suppliers to realise production scenic effects. Management of rigging resources: maintenance of safety standards and procedures. Management of electronic systems: maintenance and development. Project Management Refurbishment of the Olivier Power Flying System. Re-engineering and provision of new drive and control systems for the Olivier Drum Revolve. Installation of rim revolve system. Training Provision of operator training for theatre automation systems, including writing equipment and control system manuals. Consultancy Work Stage engineering design and/or project management on the following major projects: English National Opera, London - feasibility study into the renewal of the Coliseum grid and addition of a power flying system. Theatre Royal, Newcastle - new manual/automated flying system and fly-tower refurbishment. The Corby Cube, Corby - design of all stage engineering aspects including power flying system. RSC Courtyard Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon - Modular, demountable bridge system. National Theatre Studio, London, project management services to Client. RSC Redevelopment - Under-stage and over-stage stage engineering design for new RST Theatre Royal, Bristol - Stage engineering and project management
