Byron Harrison


Byron leads the acoustics design team from the London studio. Byron has sixteen years’ experience in the design of performing arts buildings; his work includes professional drama and music venues, university buildings, outdoor venues, and school auditoria. He has a BS in Engineering, Acoustics & Music from the University of Hartford, USA. Byron has significant experience in the design of drama theatres and is also a musician, a trained vocalist and trombonist, playing in London-based ensembles. Prior to joining Charcoalblue, Byron was a senior consultant for Talaske in Chicago. In 2010, he started the acoustics practice within Charcoalblue, upon moving to London. Under his guidance, Charcoalblue Acoustics now has more than twenty finished buildings and completed or active projects in eight countries. Byron was named a partner of Charcoalblue in 2017.

Consultancy work prior to Charcoalblue includes the Mead Centre for American Theater at Arena Stage, Washington, DC; Charles R Walgreen Jr Drama Center, University of Michigan; Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Millennium Park, Chicago; Presser Hall, Berea College, Kentucky.

Byron was recently appointed Acoustics Advisor to St Paul’s Cathedral. His other consultancy work includes The Yard at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, USA; St Ann’s Warehouse, Brooklyn, New York, USA; Theatre Royal, York, UK; Theatre Elisabethain, Chateau d’Hardelot, France; Sydney Theatre Company, Australia; Waikato Regional Theatre, Hamilton, NZ; Energy Hall, Astana Expo 2017, Kazakhstan; Pratt Institute Film/Video Department, Brooklyn, NY, USA; Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Chicago, USA; Bristol Old Vic Anniversary Works, UK.
